Digital acting_Lipsync & body

Lipsync animation

I had just been watching a old movie starring:Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers called "Shall we Dance"
not rely a movie for the fainted action fan,but anyway i like it !
now everybody have heard the song clip with the words I say potato ,you say potata......

when this mandatory oblig 3 was out I thaught that this song and with Fred Astaire`s funny face
would be cool to use as a animation base for face and sound,but I knew also I had to be clever and not take to a big project,so I did go for the opening dialog between Ginger and Fred after they had been disclaimed married in the news paper ,since they had been set up in a plot of other friends and not rely wore married it called up for some tensions between them,they were after all
just dancing partners.but some would make it lead to something else........

Well I`v got the movie but I didn`t find this clip
on youtube so,....
anyway the story is they are
out in the Central Park of New york(it is rely in a studio though) siting on a bench and begin to argue..


Once I had the sound clip done I started to set the beat and think about where it would be interests to set the main keys of action.

I heard the sound clip again and again setting my elbow at the desk and the hand or fist against my jaw to pick up where the mouth worked ups and closed ,then taking my fingers to each side of the moth ends and feeling the wide and narrows of the words.

then after this was roughly set I continued opening 3D studio Max,and just tried a little bit few
mouth shapes ,and first just played around......made a block and rough just of the facial motions
after all there was just few words that got the weight in the animation.
"I don´t know what to do"

                                           I = aiiii with slight open but wide mouth

                                           Don´t = D with pressure  + o open rounded lips
                                        
know = nOw = and open mouth ending with the lips forced forward
                                          
                                          
                                            What = starting opposite ending with draging the mouth backwardsto = tu

then I begun to think about the whole STAGING of the scene as this maybe was one of the most important things to tell the audience that there were two persons in a dialog and the one (the girl) a little upset about the situation,and as getting more and more irritated at her partner.

I made some preliminary sketches to try to catch the character style and emotion......
though it may not first is a girl.

I came up with some new Ideas to try enforce the chosen character being convince ingly fed up with
the other part,and why.
I was thinking of letting the two people be set on a railway station seeing the last train just departure or something like seting a stage that picturing their house burning down in the background,but I finaly found this cool old car break down .and let us just fidle around with
thinking that the two characters maybe is on a honeymoon and the car´s just broke down.....

working down that road I think that the character should enhance this main rules of animation

Appeal - letting the people feel the main characters hopeles feeling and irritated moment

Line of action - watch the head moves against and toward the other person in the dialog

some squash & stretch -arms and the body leans to the one side and against the knee

anticipation - comes after the talk and lead dialogue of the other character.

I also tried to sketch up some eyes as guidelines

after all this it was the technical part of tweeking the keys in the curve editor and it´s a tedious job
that I feel that I have to learn working more with, I know how I want the animation but it seems
I don´t yet get the right feeling of the character beeing alive because I don´t get the right cushouning of the head.
and overshoot of ex. arms from A to B.
it must have a little more practicising and tutions !
